This event raised essential funds for the 2024 Summer League and showcased the foundation’s long-term goals, aiming to use professional sports as a development lever for Beninese youth.Strategic Partnerships for Recruiting Young Pros
As part of this edition, the I AM Foundation formed key partnerships with MTN Benin, Epitech, and Digital Valley to facilitate the recruitment of Young Pros. These young professionals, aged 18 to 35, were selected to join the program and take on strategic roles such as Team Managers, Content Creators, Web Journalists, and other essential positions for the event’s organization.
Although the I AM Foundation internally developed the platforms needed to manage the tournament, the support of these partners was crucial in identifying and training the talents that ensured the Summer League's success.Young Pros Training: A Springboard for Careers in Sports
The Young Pros program was one of the pillars of this Summer League. These young professionals received training from experts from NBA Africa, the Basketball Africa League (BAL), and local specialists. The Young Pros gained skills in various sports professions, such as team management, content creation, social media management, and sports journalism. This training professionalized the participants and prepared them for promising careers within the sports ecosystem in Benin and internationally.Exclusive Training for Coaches and Physical Trainers
In parallel, an exclusive coaching clinic was held for coaches, physical trainers, referees, and officials. This training, led by experts such as Ian Mahinmi, Mouphtaou Yarou, Victor Salmnick, and Makoto Keke, enhanced the participants' skills. For four days, professionals shared their knowledge and offered practical sessions to perfect the mentoring and training of young athletes, thus raising their experience level in professional basketball.The Competition Begins: A Tournament for Young Beninese Talents
The tournament kicked off with teams of boys and girls under 16 from all over Benin. A total of 24 teams, composed of talented youth, competed with skill and determination over several weeks. Each match showcased emerging talents, passionate and determined players, all in an electric atmosphere.
After weeks of intense competition, the girls' final saw the Gleti Scholars face off against the Lissa Rainbows in a thrilling match. The Gleti Scholars clinched the victory in an electrifying atmosphere, putting a memorable end to this edition of the Summer League.
